2018H.R. 2; Kennedy Amendment; Motion to Table; Roll Call Vote 141
Reducing Fraud and Strengthening Work Requirements to Receive Government Assistance
2018 - U.S. Senate
Conservatives Support
Description
The Kennedy (R-LA, ACUF Lifetime 78.6%) amendment to the Agriculture Improvement Act of 2018 (i.e., farm bill) helps encourage self-sufficiency by making reforms to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). Some of these reforms to the food stamp program include updating photo identification requirements and strengthening work and job training requirements for single, work-ready adults without children. ACU supports strengthening work and job training requirements for welfare, which encourages self-sufficiency and reduces intergenerational poverty and supported this amendment. The Senate tabled (defeated) the amendment on June 28, 2018 by a vote of 68-30. (A "No" vote supported the ACU position.)
