2025SB 79

What is a Woman

2025 - Alabama House of Representatives

Conservatives Support

Description

SB 79, also known as the ‘What is a Woman’ Act, defines the use of gendered terms like “woman,” “male,” and “mother” in Alabama state code by an individual’s biological sex at birth. The bill also protects the right of state and local governments to create single-sex environments like restrooms and instructs state agencies to collect data based on an individual’s biological sex. CPAC believes that government should not be perpetuating gender ideology, and it supports this bill. SB 79 passed the Alabama House of Representatives in a 77-12 vote on February 12, 2025, and it was signed into law by Governor Kay Ivey.
