Next Generation Energy Act

Description

This bill makes several harmful changes to energy policy and regulation in the state, including requiring 4 new zero-emissions energy projects for every natural gas project that is approved and removes waste-to-energy as a “Renewable Fuel Source”. While this bill does provide new pathways for the state to invest in nuclear energy, it ultimately does not meet the state’s energy needs. CPAC opposes harmful and unnecessary environmental and energy regulations and opposes this bill. The House passed this bill on 2025-04-05 by a vote of 96-40. The Senate passed this bill on 2025-04-07 by a vote of 34-8. The bill later became law.
