2025SB 646

Subsidizing Student Debt for Selected Mental Health Professions

2025 - Texas Senate

Conservatives Oppose

Description

This bill uses taxpayer dollars to help repay education loans for certain mental health professionals who meet state-defined criteria. CPAC is wary of narrow, occupation-specific loan subsidies that distort the market instead of delivering broad tax relief and opposed this bill. The Senate passed this bill on 2025-04-30 by a vote of 19-12. The bill later became law.
