2025HB 1418

Stacking Transit Boards with Rider Activists

2025 - Washington Senate

Conservatives Oppose

Description

This bill adds two voting members who are transit users to the governing boards of public transportation benefit areas. It risks tilting transit governance toward activist riders rather than fiscal responsibility and system performance. CPAC opposes restructuring local boards in ways that can sideline taxpayers and property owners and opposed this bill. The Washington Senate passed HB 1418 on April 16, 2025, in a 36-12 vote, and Governor Bob Ferguson signed the measure into law.
